LITHIUM BATTERY BETA TEST

When we developed and patented the ROTORWIND® winding system several years ago, we knew that  winder battery lives would take a quantum leap forward.  The system winds automatic mechanical watches using a gentle "rocking motion" (click here to see the ROTORWIND® system in action).  The low-current Ironless core motor we employ makes only a single revolution every ten minutes but in doing so, it initiates a winding cycle of 15 to 20 gravity powered "swings".  The resulting winding action is equivalent to about 700 to 800 turns per day, ideal for almost every mechanical watch. 

At the time, based on  the use of two standard "D" cell Alkaline batteries, we decided to be conservative and rate the original SPARTA winders with a battery life for one year. Then we backed it with an industry first, a battery life guarantee offering free replacement. Happily, we  never had a single battery life claim and as time went on, we had many users reporting that they had already achieved 2 to 3 years of service life.

For the past few years, we've constantly monitored all the R&D taking place on new battery technology for industry. Fueled by the huge demand for extended battery life for laptop computers and concurrently, the push for better, more powerful, batteries for hybrid automobiles, developers worldwide focused on and eventually chose Lithium chemistry batteries to meet these demanding needs. At Orbita, we decided to "join the parade" and began our own Lithium R&D program in-house. Our goal was to retain the same "D" cell shape, so that we could use existing battery holder tooling, but to get more power. The end result was finally achieved early 2007when in-house life testing began on our new "baby". Eighteen months later, fully confident in the results, we are now upgrading our entire SPARTA winder series. All will now be equipped with factory-installed Orbita Lithium batteries. Actually, these new batteries provide the highest power intensity of any battery made anywhere. Our Lithium battery has an output of 3.6 volts, 240% greater than a standard 1.5 volt Alkaline battery.
