WATCHWINDERS - THE NEXT "MUST HAVE" APPLIANCE Orbita Corporation's Asian distributor is leading the charge to make watchwinders the next "must-have" appliance in luxury residences. Already under construction in Singapore is a new luxury condominium building with 90 upscale apartments where each and every apartment will be furnished with a 24-head watchwinder. Chuck Agnoff, Orbita's President, said "In an increasingly competitive luxury housing market, developers are offering new amenities to attract prospective buyers. It is well known that many high-end buyers own several high-end mechanical watches, and the availability of built-in multiple-head programmable watchwinders in the closet is a definite selling point." Normally, mechanical watches are self-winding when they are worn. However, once one has several watches, the convenience of having each watch "exercised" and always showing the correct day, date, and time is appreciated. Moreover, complex watches with additional functions or complications, such as moon-phase, tide time, month and year, can be challenging to reset properly once the watch runs down after a few days. Orbita offers a dazzling array of programmable winders including a unique patented design that keeps non-automatic (hand-wound) watches fully wound. As many fine watches have very specific winding requirements, Orbita also provides a database on their website, www.orbita.com, which allows watch owners to program their watchwinders accordingly. Agnoff predicted that ".... this trend to make watchwinders the latest "household appliance" will certainly continue to grow as new luxury housing developments come to market." |
