Press Release No. 129

ORBITA'S NEW BERGAMO 40 WATCHWINDER

Now you see them, now you don't!

Watch collectors now have a choice.  They can keep as many as 40 automatic watches fully wound on Orbita's new Bergamo 40 Watchwinder and have them on display or completely hidden from view.  The attractive Italian-made cabinet houses a remote controlled motorized lift mechanism that raises or lowers the watchwinder module on command.

In the lowered position, both the watches and the watchwinder mechanism are totally concealed and the casual observer only sees a beautifully detailed piece of furniture.  Even when the front doors are opened, only a storage area is exposed but there is no hint of the watches stored within the cabinet concealed behind a false panel.  The owner can choose either glass or wood paneled doors to suit his/her needs.

A full-width storage drawer provides adequate space for additional watches or for several of Orbita's Sempre winders for hand-wound watches as well as for electrical controls.  Sensor switches are provided for connection to burglar alarm systems and interlocks are provided to prevent lowering the winder unit if the protective glass access panels are not in place.

The Italian-made cabinet is made of Madrona Burl veneer with decorative inlays (intarsia) of brass and pearwood.  Access to all internal mechanisms is from the front of the cabinet.  Once in place, there is no need for any back access.

There are individual motorized winding mechanisms for each watch (40 in total).  Each station has its own on/off switch and a two position switch for controlling the number of winding cycles per day.  Orbita's unique patented RotorwindŽ system "rocks" the watch in an oscillating motion every 10 or 15 minutes (according to switch position) to provide a gentle, but reliable, winding action.

Operation of the winder is smooth and quiet.  A long maintenance free life is assured by the use of 160 precision ground ball bearings (4 at each station) and 40 Swiss designed ironless core servomotors.

Winding action continues automatically while watches are on display or concealed in the cabinet.  Owners of fine automatic watches can be confident that their watches will remain fully wound and properly "exercised" without any concerns about overwinding.
