THE BERGAMO WATCHWINDER Collectors of fine Swiss automatic watches will find the BERGAMO series Watchwinder to be the perfect solution for both displaying and “exercising” their fine watch collection. Designed to wind up to twenty-four (24) automatic watches independently, the BERGAMO from ORBITA Corporation combines Old World craftsmanship with modern electronic design and engineering. There are a total of twenty-four (24) winding heads, which may be individually programmed to rotate either clockwise or counter-clockwise, according to the particular watch being wound. The winding time for each is adjustable to provide the exact number of turns per day (TPD) recommended by the watch manufacturer. The winding cycle repeats automatically every 24 hours. Twelve silent and durable servo gear motors each power a pair of winding heads through a technopolymer spur gear system. A total of seventy-two (72) precision ball bearings are used for all rotating elements to assure long and trouble free life. Input electrical power is 100 to 240 volts AC, 50 or 60 hertz. An electronic “switcher” power supply converts incoming AC power to low voltage 5 volts DC which powers the ironless core, low current motors. All circuits are provided with overload protection. Each watch is fitted over a resilient, non-marking latex foam cushion that adapts to virtually any wrist size. After mounting the watch, the watch and cushion assembly is inserted into a winding cup that is made of glass-reinforced nylon. The sides of the cup are removed to prevent any metal to plastic contact that could damage highly polished surfaces. Watch security is assured by the tilt-back angle of the cups that eliminate all concerns of watches falling as they rotate. As each cup rotates, either in the clockwise or counter-clockwise (as programmed by the user), the individual watch is wound…but with no chance of overwinding. The Italian handcrafted cabinet demonstrates the complicated art of “intarsia”, the process of using exotic woods and metals as inlays for decorating fine furniture. The cabinet is totally finished in Madrona Burl veneer with accent stripes and quadrant inlays made of Black Pearwood and circular inlays around the quadrants made of Satin Brass. Madrona, or the Strawberry tree as it is sometimes called in Europe, is a rare and beautiful Mediterranean Species. The decorative burl pattern is caused by growths on the sides of Madrona trees where hundreds of tiny branches have started to grow. Madrona Burls are quite rare and priced for their beauty and complexity. The cabinet is finished with a high gloss, multicoat polyester lacquer that is extremely durable and maintenance free. The slide-out drawer at the top of the winder conceals six (6) programmable timers that control the drive system and also provides storage for pocket watches, watch certificates and/or related documents. The hinged tempered plate glass door is supplied with a security lock to prevent unauthorized access. The BERGAMO cabinet measures 21”w x 14”d x 48” h. (53cm x 36cm x 115cm) and weighs approximately 145 lbs. (70 kg.) The BERGAMO Watchwinder is also offered in a less expensive twelve (12) head version utilizing the top 12 positions only. The cabinet and drive specifications remain the same and this unit can be later field modified to increase the total winding capacity as the owners watch collection grows.
